Massive Dinosaur Lights Festival Takes Over Metro Charlotte

A glowing herd of dinosaurs is about to take over metro Charlotte — and it’s happening after dark.

The LuminoCity Dino Safari Lights Festival opens Wednesday, May 6, transforming more than 100,000 square feet of Concord Mills into a walk-through prehistoric world powered by color, motion, and light.

Running through June 14, the outdoor experience features more than 70 life-size dinosaurs—from towering predators to long-necked giants— brought to life through animatronics and illuminated installations. It’s less a traditional exhibit and more a walk-through you can explore at your own pace.

Visitors move through themed areas and illuminated tunnels as the sun goes down, with plenty of spots to stop for photos, explore, or let kids play along the way.

The scale is a big part of the draw. Some dinosaurs stretch more than 40 feet tall, creating a skyline of glowing shapes visible across the grounds, while smaller details — movement, sound, and lighting effects — bring the scenes to life up close.

For families, it leans just as much into activity as visuals. Kids can dig for fossils, try gem mining, and jump into play zones, while optional add-ons like ride-on attractions and inflatables are spread throughout the space.

There’s no strict time limit once inside, making it easy to wander, linger, and take it in — whether that’s a quick loop or a longer evening outing.

The festival takes place in the outdoor area near the AMC Theatre at Concord Mills, with entry starting at 5 p.m. and later hours on weekends. Tickets are available online, with weekends expected to be the busiest.
