Mecklenburg County Officer Arrested For Embezzlement

Mecklenburg County Detention Officer Jason Kersey was arrested for using a county credit card for personal expenses.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police arrested a fellow Mecklenburg County law enforcement colleague Friday after an investigation unveiled the detention officer used a county credit card for his own expenses.

Mecklenburg County Detention Officer Jason Kersey, 29, was arrested Feb. 23 after the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office launched an internal investigation related to a county-issued credit card.

In late December, Kersey was issued the Mecklenburg County travel procurement card for travel expenses related to training as a member of the Sheriff’s office, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department statement said. The Sheriff’s office contacted CMPD’s financial crimes unit regarding the charges and an investigation determined he had used the credit card for his own personal expenses.
