Memorial Fund Set Up To Honor 5-Year-Old Boy Killed At Rotating Restaurant

The family of Charlie Holt, who died in an accident at an Atlanta restaurant, want to use his memory to help others.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The family of a five-year-old boy from Charlotte who was crushed between a wall and a table in a bizarre accident at a revolving restaurant in Atlanta has established a memorial fund in his honor.

The accident claimed Charlie Holt after he and his family were dining at the Sun Dial restaurant, which is on the 71st floor of the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta and provides 360-degree views of the city.

They had been sitting at a window seat, when he wandered away from the table and became caught when the restaurant rotated around 3 p.m. on Friday, April 14. Observers said he had somehow became lodged between the table and wall when it rotated. While the floor shut down automatically, “his whole body was caught in between maybe 4 or 5 inches of space and his head took the brunt of the injury, local police told WXIA.

His family announced April 18 it was launching a Memorial Fund in his honor. In a statement, they said, “Charlie Holt was the sweetest, most accepting, and lovable child who had a hug for everyone. He never met a person or an animal whom he did not immediately love. Everyone was his friend. His thirst for knowledge and adventure was infectious. Everyone so loved sweet little Charlie. In lieu of flowers and to honor him, the Charlie Holt Memorial Fund has been established to preserve his memory and to allow children to fulfill the dreams that Charlie himself was unable to experience.”
