Midday Shooting Leaves One Dead In Charlotte: CMPD

One man is dead and another is in custody after a midday shooting on West Trade Street, Charlotte police said Monday.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A shooting in Charlotte Monday afternoon left one person dead and a suspect in police custody, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Monday afternoon.

The midday shooting, which occurred in a parking lot around 12:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Trade Street, is now a homicide investigation, CMPD said, adding that the victim would be identified pending family notification.

After recieving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon taking place in the parking lot, CMPD officers found the male victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken by paramedics to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, CMPD said in a statement.

Police located a man near the scene who matched the description of the suspect. He is currently being interviewed and investigators are not searching for additional suspects, CMPD said.
