MLK Day 2018: What’s Open, Closed In Charlotte

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 15. Here's a list of local government offices and services that will close for the holiday.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, marking the 32nd year of observance of the federal holiday honoring the civil rights leader. While some in the region might be headed to work, schools, government offices and other services will take a break for the day.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018:

Mecklenburg County government offices: All offices and agencies will be closed on Monday, Jan.15, 2018 for Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services: Closed

The Department of Social Services hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).

Mecklenburg County Tax Office: Closed

Mecklenburg County Elections Office: Closed

Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds Office: Closed

Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency: Closed

Mecklenburg County Health Department: Closed

Library: The Main Library and all library branches will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15.

Trash: All Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15. The City of Charlotte refuse collection schedule is on a one day delay with no pickup on the MLK holiday.

Parks: Park and Recreation administrative offices be closed on Monday, Jan. 15. Recreation and Senior Centers will be open holiday hours. Nature Centers will remain open.

  • Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ray’s Splash Planet will open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Marion Diehl Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the MLK holiday.
  • As a reminder, CharMeck 311 is open and available to the public Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m
