Moths In The Baklava: What Restaurant Inspections Found

CHARLOTTE, NC — Three Mecklenburg County restaurant kitchens saw their health ratings drop to a "B" after inspectors found a range of infractions ranging from improper hand washing to a cutting board stored on the floor to moths in a baklava prep case, according to a recent report by county health officials.

Some of the lowest health inspection ratings for recently inspected Charlotte-area restaurants were given to the following restaurants, include three area kitchens that saw their ratings drop to a "B.”

Those restaurants with downgraded scores are listed below with links to inspection reports, and include:

• Red Chillez Indian Grill, 14027 Conlan Circle — B
• Golden Bakery, 3145 N. Sharon Amity Road — B
• Inchins Bamboo Garden, 9601 N. Tryon Street — B

An inspection found 19 violations at Red Chillez Indian Grill including a pot of food and rice stored on the floor, an employee touching their face and not washing their hands afterwards, and “observed general cleaning needed in the facility.”

At Golden Bakery, 10 violations were found during an Aug. 7 inspection, including food build up on several kitchen items, food without proper date markings, moths in the baklava prep case and an employee who handled a phone and put on gloves without washing their hands.

An inspection at Inchins Bamboo Garden found 15 violations, including an employee changing out a trash can liner with their bare hands and putting on gloves to begin food handling without washing their hands first. Soap and papertowels were missing from the hand sink, a bag of raw chicken was stored on the same pan as Indian cheese in a walk-in cooler, and an employee who grabbed a cutting board stored on the floor and attempt to place it on the prep cooler for use without sanitizing first.
