Charges Brought Against Driver In Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Charlotte
Steven Lamont McKinney was killed Sunday evening after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car in northwest Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charges have been brought against a driver following a Sunday evening crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in northwest Charlotte, according to police officials.
Steven Lamont McKinney, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after the Suzuki motorcycle he was driving hit the left front of a Toyota in the 9400 block of Mount Holly Road.
McKinney, who was driving northwest, hit the Toyota driven by Marielena Del Rio Cocinero, 23, as she pulled into the intersection with Sonoma Valley Drive around 9:30 p.m. July 16, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. Three days later, she was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

“After gathering information and evidence during the investigation, detectives determined that excessive speed by motorcycle rider, Steven Lamont McKinney, was not a contributing factor in the crash,” CMPD said Wednesday.
