The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Hello, everybody! It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your temporary host of the Charlotte Daily while Alexis is off. Here to tell you everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days.

First, today's weather:

An afternoon thunderstorm. High: 92 Low: 73.

Here are the top three stories in Charlotte today:

  1. In the early hours of Sunday morning, two people were killed in separate Charlotte shootings, according to police. The first incident happened in the 7200 block of East Independence Boulevard shortly before 1 a.m. The victim, 29-year-old Montereo Lamar Adams, reportedly died from his injuries at a local hospital. The second shooting happened two hours later in the 900 block of McAlway Road, where victim Johnny Tramir Green, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. These shootings occurred after a man opened fire at Charlotte's Comedy Zone on Saturday night; however, that shooting occurred after the club had been evacuated, and no injuries were reported. (Charlotte Observer)
  2. If you recently purchased a Powerball ticket from the Harris Teeter on South Tryon Street, you may have just won $1 million. In a news release on Sunday, the North Carolina Education Lottery said a $2 ticket sold at the Charlotte supermarket matched the numbers from Saturday's drawing: 3-18-23-32-57 and Powerball 21. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize. (Charlotte Observer)
  3. Atlanta-based Monday Night Brewing is opening its fifth taproom in Charlotte's South End neighborhood at 2217 South Tryon St. The 8,500-square-foot space is currently under construction with an anticipated opening in early 2023 and will offer one of South End's largest outdoor open spaces when completed. South Charlotte Weekly reports that the taproom will feature a diverse beer list, hand-crafted Neapolitan-style pizzas, and a curated wine and cocktail program. (South Charlotte Weekly)
