Murder Suspect’s Photo Released By Police

Police have released the photo of a suspect they say shot and killed a man in his Charlotte office during a Tuesday night robbery.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The homicide suspect bolted through the Charlotte commercial office park, emerging from the late night shadows just long enough for a security camera to catch his image before he sprinted out of frame. Now, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are hoping someone in the community will recognize this suspect and help them catch a killer.

The scene unfolded shortly after 11 p.m. Oct. 24, police responded to a 911 call for help for an armed robbery in the 3100 block of Amity Court. A black male suspect in his 20s entered the business and attempted to rob 44-year-old Preston Scott Coffey and a female witness.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Coffey shot to death in his office.He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police dispatched a K-9 team and a helicopter search in an attempt to locate the suspect, but he was not found, CMPD said.

CMPD is actively investigating both cases and ask anyone with information about the incidents call 704-432-TIPS, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
