N.C.’s Governor Defies General Assembly, Vetos State Budget
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper vetoed the state's $23 billion budget plan Monday morning, but faces House and Senate override.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper vetoed the state’s budget Monday morning, saying it “shortchanges the needs of our growing state and has the wrong priorities.”
Cooper’s opposition to the $23 billion budget plan released June 19 was expected after he said the tax cuts and increases in teacher salaries didn’t go far enough, The News and Observer reported. The GOP-led House and Senate, however, are expected to override Cooper’s veto later this week.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
