CHARLOTTE, NC -- Today is National Blueberry Pie Day, a day to celebrate one of the most quintessential deserts in the U.S. Blueberry Pie as we know it originated more than a century ago, in an age of settlers and pioneers. In fact, one industrious traveling pioneer cook on the Alaskan frontier had her own unique recipe that required rendered bear fat, a dog team, snow, 15 cords of wood, 50 pounds of sugar and a kettle, according to the National Parks Service.
