Hello, everybody. It's me, Alexis Goring, your host of the Charlotte Daily — here to impart all the most important things happening locally. Let's have at it.

Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:

  1. If a new legislation proposed by North Carolina Republicans is approved, it would prohibit teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. It would require parental notice when students in any grade question their sexual identity in school. "Parents' Bill of Rights" also known as "House Bill 755," would create new rules. Some rules would directly address sexual orientation and gender identity. (WCNC.com)
  2. A volunteer group made some much-needed repairs to the home of elderly sisters who live in Charlotte. But they didn't stop there — these volunteers with Canopy Realtor Association fixed up 15 homes and community centers throughout the Charlotte metro area for Realtors Care Day. This project, completed once-a-year, is an initiative to preserve affordable housing in the region. (Spectrum News)
  3. Mecklenburg County Jail mistakenly released Quay Davis, an inmate by mistake on May 9, after his court information was entered incorrectly and omitted a writ hold. Deputies have been searching for Davis since they were notified of the error. He has now been found and returned to custody since Tuesday. (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
  4. Friday, May 27, Carowinds' premier water park will reopen! According to WCCB Charlotte, guests can "celebrate the culture of the Carolina coast and enjoy more than 28 attractions for families and thrill-seekers, as well as resort-style amenities with the luxury of a reserved cabana, and Carolina cuisine." This park offers something fun for everyone of all ages! Guests can enjoy attractions like the Boogie Board Racer (the longest mat-racing water slide in the southeast) and they can float down the 1,000-foot long Coastal Currents lazy river. (WCCB Charlotte)
  5. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein is recovering from a minor stroke. He announced what happened in a tweet via Twitter on Tuesday. Stein said he had stroke-like symptoms Monday night and was taken to the hospital. The expectation is that he will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days. (WCCB Charlotte)
