NC Inmate Dies After Crashing Stolen Work Truck
An escaped inmate died after a single-vehicle crash near Interstate 85 Monday afternoon. He was driving a stolen work truck.

GASTONIA, NC — An escaped inmate died Monday afternoon after the stolen work truck he was driving crashed along Interstate 85.
The inmate, who has been identified as 46-year-old David A. Woods of New Hanover County,
left his work assignment and was reported missing shortly before 1 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Woods was serving a life sentence for a 1995 second-degree murder conviction, according to state officials.

He was driving a City of Lowell truck, which crashed in a single vehicle accident at Exit 14 along I-85 around 2:15 p.m.
The accident and the circumstances surrounding his escape are under investigation, NCDPS said.
