NC Officials Identify Nursing Homes With Coronavirus Outbreaks
NC public health officials are now identifying specific nursing home and assisted living facilities where COVID-19 outbreaks are occurring.
NORTH CAROLINA — As the number of novel coronavirus outbreaks continue to grow at state nursing homes and assisted living facilities, North Carolina public health officials have reversed course and are now identifying specific facility locations where outbreaks are occurring.
The news of the new set of data, which will be updated twice a week going forward, comes after the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services faced intense criticism for withholding the names of facilities, the Charlotte Observer reported.
At least 9,142 people in the state have tested positive for the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19 and at least 306 people have died from coronavirus illness in North Carolina since late March, NC DHHS said Monday morning.

"I think folks have known that we've been trying to always strike the balance of transparency and getting good data to folks, protecting public health and protecting individual privacy," NC DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen said Monday. "We want to make sure that the information is standardized. We saw a patchwork quilt of information released across the state and we hope this will be helpful to folks as we go forward."
