NC Primary Guide 2018: Voting Sites, Hours, Candidates
Have you voted yet? If not, there's still time. Early voting ends in Mecklenburg County Saturday, May 5. The Primary is Tuesday, May 8.

CHARLOTTE, NC βPrimary voters across Mecklenburg County and the state are heading to the polls today to decide who will head to the ballot in November. Even before election day, early voter turnout significantly outpaced previous primaries, according to one election spokesperson.
Confused about where to go to cast your ballot, or even whoβs on it? Patch has you covered. You can also find a list of primary results here.
One of the top primary races to watch in Mecklenburg County is that on the Republican ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 9 seat, currently held by Rep. Robert Pittenger.

Pittenger, who has shown allegiance to President Trump, faces not only a competitive primary inside his own party but also a looming threat that North Carolina's 9th Congressional District could flip to Democrats during midterm elections in November.

A Citivas poll last month, however, showed that Pittenger was leading his two Republican primary challengers with 52 percent support of GOP voters.
βThe key to midterm elections are typically the fact that midterms are referendums on the president and his party, and even if a president is βabove waterβ in his job approval, seats may still be lost in both the House and Senate. With Trump's approval sitting in the high 30s to low 40s, this doesn't bode well for Republicans in their campaigns this fall,β Dr. Michael Bitzer told Patch recently.
βPittenger has some cushion in the district by overperforming the president in 2016, but any Democratic wave of significant size will make the seat likely a competitive one come the fall,β Bitzer said.
