NC’s Snowfall Up Significantly This Year
N.C.'s snowfall totals are up significantly this year, like many other cities in the South. Here's how much we got.

CHARLOTTE, NC — It's almost the end of February, and this snow season has been plenty active in North Carolina. How big were snow totals? Well, take a look at the chart at the bottom of this post from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Out of the 68 cities and regions in the Eastern United States included in the chart, Charlotte came in No. 62 with 4 inches of snow for the season. While that total is up significantly compared to the 1.1 inches it received last winter, it’s more in line with what forecasters consider the normal snowfall range for Charlotte of 3.6 inches. This year’s snowfall in the Queen City surpassed tat seen in Wilmington, N.C., Cape Hatteras and even Washington, D.C.
Erie, Pa. received 156.5 inches of snow this year, almost double it’s normal snowfall of 82.2 inches, NOAA said.

As far as the biggest discrepancy between normal snowfall and actual snowfall, Charleston, W.V., normally gets 28.3 inches by this point in the season, but so far has just 10.3 inches.

- Raleigh, NC — 7.3 inches this year, 0.5 inches last year
- Elizabeth City, NC — 6.8 inches this year, 1.2 inches last year
- New Bern, NC — 6 inches this year, 0.0 inches last year
- Charlotte, NC — 4 inches this year, 1.1 inches last year
- Wilmington, NC — 3.8 inches this year, trace last year
- Cape Hatteras, NC — 3.5 inches this year, 0.0 inches last year
