Here are the top five stories in Charlotte today:
- North Carolina's first On-the-Go Dunkin' store will open in Conover on 112 Thornburg Drive today. According to WBTV, "The first 100 people in line will receive a free glazed donut. A Free Coffee for a Year giveaway, VIP cards to the store and additional celebrations will follow at a later date." (WBTV)
- According to WCNC, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools plans to add body scanners to 49 of its middle and K-8 schools in the upcoming school year. Interim Superintendent Hugh Hattabaugh sent a letter to CMS families and staff members, saying the district intends to install scanners like those in 21 CMS high schools. Hattabaugh made this decision due to the "increase in gun sales nationwide since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as record numbers of weapons at CMS schools last year, including four firearms at middle and K-8 schools in the district." - A cybersecurity awareness campaign designed to educate private sector businesses and organizations in North Carolina about the increasing threat of a cyberattack, was recently launched by The FBI Charlotte Field Office. - The NC Department of Health and Human Services officials said that limited doses of the monkeypox vaccine are available in North Carolina. According to WCNC, "the federal government has allocated North Carolina 444 doses of Jynneos, a vaccine that can prevent illness or lead to less severe symptoms if given within two weeks after someone is exposed to monkeypox. Because of limited supply, vaccination is currently only being offered to individuals with known or suspected exposure to monkeypox."(WCNC.com)
