  1. "The Charlotte City Council has approved rezoning plans for a new Chick-fil-A and Starbucks to open in the Grier Heights neighborhood. ... The new restaurants will be located in the parking lot of Food Lion on Wendover Road, according to WCCB Charlotte,." (WCCB Charlotte)
  2. Clean Juice®, a national USDA-certified organic juice and food bar franchise, celebrated growth and new strategic initiatives with more than 330 home office staff, key vendors and franchise partners, including its most recent franchisee, Tim Tebow, according to PR Newswire ." The highlight of the annual business conference, held at the new JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Charlotte, was when Tebow surprised the crowd by "delivering an inspiring motivational speech and hosted a meet-and-greet, followed by the official announcement of his first store opening in Jacksonville."   3. Many animal shelters across the USA are overwhelmed with crowded kennels and they're asking for help. A major issue for shelters is having shortages in their staff. When shelters don't have the help they need, it can be bad news for hopeful pets. ... It's been a very tough summer at the city-run shelter in Charlotte. Melissa Knicely has worked at the Charlotte shelter for 15 years and says this is the worst she's seen it. (Fox News)
  4. There's a proposal to build hundreds of new townhomes and houses in Charlotte University's area and local neighbors are fighting back against it. "A builder wants to rezone what is now just woods near Rocky River and Old Concord Roads to put up almost 700 new houses. There aren't many backyards in Charlotte like Mark and Maria Dietz's. The Dietzes worry about the impact of almost 700 new homes on roads, schools, and the environment," according to CBS17. (CBS17.com)
  5. Charlotte native Ikem Ekwonu is a rookie who has been selected by The Carolina Panthers as the starting left tackle. "Ekwonu has proven himself ready to be the team's starting tackle after splitting reps during training camp and the first preseason game at Washington...The Charlotte native has been penciled in by many to be Carolina's starting left tackle after being drafted No. 6 overall out of NC State," according to WCNC.
