New ‘Copperhead Strike’ Coaster Coming To Carowinds: VIDEO
Carowinds' new "Copperhead Strike" roller coaster will be completed by spring 2019, has five inversions and more than 3,000 feet of track.

CHARLOTTE, NC — If you like roller coasters, then this story is going to knock you for a loop. Five of them, to be exact. That’s the number of inversions Carowinds’ newest attraction, the 3,255-foot Copperhead Strike roller coaster, will have, the amusement park announced Thursday.
The roller coaster, which will be built and operational by spring 2019, is the first double launch coaster in the Carolinas, Carowinds said Aug. 30.
“Copperhead Strike will deliver twice the boost and twice the bite,” Carowinds said. The ride is part of a new 7-acre “Blue Ridge Junction” themed section of the amusement park that includes a new restaurant and SpringHill Suites by Marriott, which is the park’s first on-site hotel.

Here’s how the park describes the ride:
“The ride immediately leaves the station and goes into a jo-jo roll before loading into the launch station. After pausing, the ride takes off at an incredible 0 to 42 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. Guests will experience a series of fast, tight, close-to-the-ground maneuvers and flip upside down in five head-over-heels inversions -- the most of any double launch coaster in North America.”
Halfway through the ride, there’s another thrust of acceleration, the park said.
