🌱 New Justice Center Coming + Krispy Kreme For Dogs This Friday

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charlotte.

Good morning, Charlotte! I'm here in your inbox today to get you up to speed on everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Here's the lowdown.

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m.. High: 90 Low: 70.

Here are the top five stories today in Charlotte:

  1. If you're looking to buy a used car, the chances of you getting a good deal are slim. WCNC reports that, "according to iSeeCars.com, prices for used cars nationwide have increased 10.9% over the past year. Experts blame the price hike on the microchip shortage that continues to plague the auto industry. The shortage means fewer new cars are available, which is driving up the cost of pre-owned vehicles." (WCNC.com)
  2. According to Autobody News, "The new location of Body Works Plus will feature a 20,000-square foot facility, with an adjacent 15,000-square foot warehouse on an additional 1-acre parcel of land. Owner Brian Davies recently acquired the new facility in Charlotte's Camp North End, a 76-acre historic site known as the city's "hub for innovation and creativity," where redevelopment has turned the area into a coveted place to do business."(Autobody News)
  3. There is hope people impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse and human trafficking in Charlotte. According to the city government, "The Charlotte City Council on Monday approved $5 million for the Umbrella Center, a proposed family justice center to be located on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte. A proven national model, family justice centers bring victim services — advocacy, counseling, health care, law enforcement, legal services and social services — under one roof in a safe, unified support system that eases the process for people to get the help they need." (charlottenc.gov)
  4. Mattie Finch — a trailblazer for coffee connoisseurs — is being recognized in the "Women Who Lead" mural in South End. According to Spectrum News, Mattie is "known affectionately as the heiress of coffee, thanks to her mom's love for the drink. Finch left her career as a musician over 10 years ago to become a curator of coffee, opening Sage Marie's Coffee and Tea, which is an online coffee boutique." (Spectrum News)
  5. Krispy Kreme will sell limited-time baked treats for your four-legged friends, to celebrate National Dog Day on Aug. 26. According to WCNC, "the limited-edition baked treats for dogs of all ages and sizes will be available at participating shops while supplies last on National Dog Day and over the weekend if any of the treats remain...Doggie Doughnuts will be available in a specially designed six-count box for purchase in-shop and via drive-thru."
