North Carolina Man Identified As Lake Drowning Victim In Texas
Akeem Albert Cameron, 22, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, drowned on Sept. 14 at Thurman Cove — the 3rd person to die at lake this year.
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — A North Carolina man drowned in a lake near Austin, Texas while swimming over the weekend, according to Travis County Sheriff's Office officials, who on Tuesday released his identity.
Officials identified the drowning victim as Akeem Albert Cameron, 22, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The man drowned on Sept. 14 after a caller notified first responders at around 1:15 p.m. that he was having trouble treading water in the Thurman Cove area of Lake Travis before he disappeared.
Sheriff's deputies, along with Travis County Parks Police officers, Pedernales Fire Dept., Lake Travis Fire & Rescue, ATCEMS and STAR Flight immediately responded to the scene in attempts to rescue Cameron. TCSO Lake Patrol units searched the water before the Underwater Recovery Team arrived to take over the search, officials said.

Detectives are investigating the incident and an investigation into the cause and manner of death is being conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office.
Cameron is the third person to die in Lake Travis this year. John Petrone died on June 17, after vanishing in the Rough Hollow area of the lake. Sebastian Medina-Page died on Feb. 21 in the Hurst Creek Arm area while trying to repair a broken pump at a private residence.
