Obamacare Repeal: How NC Representatives Voted

Here's a list of how North Carolina's members of Congress voted as the House narrowly passed an Obamacare repeal Thursday.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives clocked a narrow victory Thursday, but a win nonetheless, when they passed a controversial bill that would repeal and replace major aspects of the Affordable Care Act. The party-line vote proved to be a virtual roll call for North Carolina representatives, with only one Republican voting against the bill.

The final vote tally was 217-213, with nine North Carolina representatives voting for the bill and four voting against.

More than nine million Americans rely on ACA, also known as Obamacare, for their health insurance. About 550,000 North Carolinians rely on the Affordable Care Act insurance marketplace, NPR reported earlier this year.

The May 4 vote was called without hearings to discuss the sweeping legislative plan with many Republican lawmakers admitting they had not even read the legislation, according to the Washington Post. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), who chairs the House Freedom Caucus, said he was willing to back off his previous demands for hearings, which is an about-face for Freedom Caucus members who have previously demanded time to read legislation prior to a vote, the newspaper reported. “I can tell you that I have read the bill no less than six times. If they haven’t read the bill it is because they haven’t spent the time to do that,” Meadows told the Post.

The House measure now heads to the Senate, which is expected to be a tough hurdle for the bill as is. Earlier Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who has urged lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to work together on the healthcare law, took to Twitter to express his concern over the House bill: “ A bill -- finalized yesterday, has not been scored, amendments not allowed, and 3 hours final debate -- should be viewed with caution.”

Democratic members of Congress and other opponents of the latest House health care bill gathered on Capitol Hill to protest before House vote:
