"Operation NC Freedom" Rescues Nearly 100 Pot-bellied Pigs
Southeastern Sanctuary Coalition "Operation NC Freedom" In Need of Public Support To Help Nearly 100 Pot-bellied Pigs In Duplin County, NC
(Chinquapin, SC) - Josh Carpenter, Board President of Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary is part of the rescue efforts in place to help nearly 100 pot-bellied pigs who are being rescued from a property in Duplin County, NC, specifically Chinquapin, NC. According to Carpenter, “Nearly 100 pot-bellied pigs are in need of immediate placement due to unsafe conditions, lack of proper vet care, and lack of proper shelter and food.” Carpenter states, “This was a private rescue who took in more animals than they could care for; the situation for these beautiful animals has been dire. We are thankful that we are being given the opportunity to step in and help.”
Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary is an instrumental part of “Operation NC Freedom,” a coalition of sanctuaries that has joined together to help rescue the pigs, and to provide proper food, shelter, and medical care. The pot-bellied pigs are adoptable. The public’s support is urgently needed in terms of potential adopters who can come forward, volunteers who can step up and help, and for donations which are urgently needed to meet the immediate needs of the nearly 100 animals. The sanctuaries who are a part of “Operation NC Freedom” include Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary and Rescue, Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary, Party Farms Animal Sanctuary, Sisu Refuge, Ziggy's Refuge Farm Sanctuary. Supporting sanctuary partners include Blueberry Lane Farm Animal Sanctuary, Sweet Bear Rescue Farm and Piggies by the Sea. Josh Carpenter states, “We are working on moving them all to a safe location, providing proper nourishment and shelter. The pot-bellied pigs who are in need of medical care have already been hospitalized. The majority of the pot-bellied pigs are malnourished and were not being fed proper feed, and none of them were being fed enough.” Carpenter continued, Sadly, “they were living in smaller enclosures in their own waste. Some were living in knee deep water where their small pins had previously flooded. Multiple were special needs pigs in need of medication that they were not receiving. Several of the pigs are urgent cases due to being malnourished, as well as unchecked illnesses. There was no shelter for them to escape any of the elements.”
Donations are needed to help provide proper vet care, feed and medication. “Operation NC Freedom" is also urgently seeking volunteers to help with on the ground care. "These pigs had no shelter, were living in their own waste, had no proper nutrition, and no vet care. Several are already being treated in veterinary hospitals, and we are working to get them all proper vet care this week,” states Carpenter.
Evan Costner of Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary adds, "We are working on moving the pigs to a temporary holding location so they can have clean and dry surroundings and be properly cared for while we work on finding each of them their forever homes."
The public is encouraged to help these sanctuaries who are stepping up to help each one of the precious pigs who have been without basic, important necessities so that they can all thrive again. All pigs will be adoptable once they have been properly vetted. One of the pigs already has a forever home with Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary.
