Here are the top four stories today in Charlotte:
- "Panthers legend Thomas Davis is opening Uptown sports bar. ... Ten58, aptly named after the numbers Davis wore in his career — 10 at the University of Georgia and 58 with the Panthers — will host its grand opening on Thursday, Nov. 17. The sports bar is located at 430 West Fourth Street, where Taproom Social used to be. It's directly across from Truist Field at the intersection with Graham Street," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "If you still haven't booked a flight for your holiday travel, get ready to pay a lot more than you did for tickets. The best time to book holiday travel was in September. So what does that mean if you haven't booked your trip? Simply put, you're going to pay quite a bit more. Rising fuel costs, staffing shortages and fewer scheduled flights are factors leading to more costly airfares. Just how much more? According to the latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, airline tickets have increased 42.9% since last October. And it's only going to get more expensive the longer you wait," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
- "Starting Wednesday, Nov. 16, several North Carolina health systems will implement new visitation policies in an effort to limit the spread of respiratory viruses. “Out of concern for the health and wellbeing of the community, and due to the widespread prevalence of respiratory viruses, such as RSV and flu among young children, several North Carolina health systems ask that children 12 and under not visit patients who are hospitalized,” according to a news release. Masks are still required for visitors. Anyone who is 13 years of age or older and is experiencing flu-like symptoms, including runny nose, sore throat, fever or cough, should not visit patients being treated in area hospitals," Spectrum News reports. (Spectrum News)
- "American Airlines flight attendants picketed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and other U.S. airports Tuesday over contract disputes. It came as the country prepares for a busy holiday travel season. The flight attendants say they’re overworked and suffering a poor quality of life because of the delay in contract negotiations. According to the picketers, since the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines have bounced back, but they’re operating on a thin schedule that doesn’t provide flight attendants with enough rest or adequate pay to keep up with rising living costs," WBTV reports.
