Pedestrian Stepped Off Street Curb Hit, Killed By Car in Charlotte
A man walking along Old Steele Creek Road stepped off the curb and into the path of a Jeep Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A 57-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed Thursday night when he stepped off a street curb into its path, according to Charlotte police.
Joe Lee Stinson was walking along Old Steele Creek Road near the intersection with Elmin Street in Charlotte around 10:15 p.m. June 22 when he stepped “directly into the path” of a Jeep Patriot driven by Emmett Marsell Cherry. Stinson was not in a crosswalk, CMPD said.
Cherry stopped and attempted to help Stinson, who was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Stinson was struck and killed in the 2800 block of Old Steele Creek Road / Google Maps
According to CMPD, neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident. The incident is under investigation and police ask anyone who has information call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
