A man attempting to cross North Tryon Street was struck and killed by a driver early Friday morning, Charlotte police say.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A pedestrian was found dead early Friday morning after he was struck and killed while crossing North Tryon Street before sunrise, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
George Lee Wingo, 52, was pronounced dead around 6 a.m. on the scene in the 7200 block of North Tryon Street after he was struck by a 2011 Camaro driven by Marlin L. Broadnax, according to a Sept. 22 CMPD report. Broadnax, 48, attempted to stop when he spotted Wingo, who was not crossing at a marked crosswalk, and remained on the scene. Alcohol and driver speed are not contributing factors to the crash, police said.
