Police Ask For Help Locating Drug Trafficking Suspect

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police are asking for the public’s help locating a suspect wanted on drug trafficking charges after he cut off his court-ordered electronic monitor Wednesday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Joseph Chalmers Bennett, 38, was ordered to wear the device as a condition of his pretrial release. He was last known to be at the Super 8 Motel in the 3200 block of Queen City Drive.

Bennet is wanted for trafficking opium or heroin, as well as damage to property and interfering with an electronic monitoring device. He is described as 5-foot, 6-inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.

CMPD said that anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact the Electronic Monitoring Unit at 704-432-8888, option #3 or call 911.
