Police Identify Clerk Killed In Convenience Store Armed Robbery

Ismael Doumbia, 50, was killed in the west Charlotte convenience store where he worked during an armed robbery Monday morning.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have identified an employee who was shot and killed in a west Charlotte convenience store where he worked early Monday morning in what police say was an armed robbery that turned deadly. The search continues for the gunman.

Officers responded to the convenience store located in the 2700 block of Freedom Drive in around 3:20 a.m., and found victim Ismael Doumbia, 50, had been shot. Doumbia was transported by medic to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

CMPD investigators responded to the scene in a search for witnesses. “Initial information gathered at the scene indicates that this was an armed robbery from business where the suspect robbed and shot the employee/victim before fleeing the scene,” CMPD said.

CMPD said that anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
