Police Identify Man Killed In Charlotte Hit-And-Run
A police investigation is underway after a 22-year-old man was struck by a vehicle early Monday while crossing East Independence Boulevard.
CHARLOTTE, NC β A police investigation is underway following a fatal predawn hit-and-run Monday that left a 22-year-old man dead on East Independence Boulevard.
The incident occurred shortly before 3:40 a.m. Sept 6, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Officers responded to a welfare check call for service at the 1300 block of East Independence Boulevard, and located a man unconscious in the roadway.

The victim, who was identified as Cameron Cook, was later pronounced dead on the scene.
"Evidence in the roadway suggested the victim had been struck by a vehicle, so detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Motorcycle Unit officers, and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct an investigation," CMPD said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking in the right lane of inbound East Independence Boulevard when he was struck by an unknown vehicle at the Brookshire Boulevard and John Belk Freeway split," CMPD said. "The area where the crash occurred was poorly lit. The vehicle did not remain on the scene, but a passerby called 911 to report the male laying in the roadway."
CMPD said that anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
