Police Shoot, Kill Man Who Stabbed 13-Year-Old Girl, Per CMPD

Police responded to a domestic violence call where a woman and child were in danger on Saturday.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police responded to a domestic violence call Saturday and when they arrived on scene, they found a man armed with a knife with a woman and child in danger.

According to CMPD, the man forced himself into the home and the woman was able to escape, but the 13-year-old girl remained inside. The man held the girl at knifepoint while officers tried to deescalate the situation. Per CMPD, the man suddenly stabbed the girl and police immediately shot him.

The officers then rendered life-saving efforts until Medic arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The 13-year-old victim was transported to Atrium Main with life-threatening injuries.

No officers with the CMPD were injured in this incident. The names of the officers and subject involved are temporarily being withheld pending appropriate family notification of the incident.

The SBI will be the primary investigative agency for this investigation. As per standard protocol, there will be an investigation to determine whether CMPD policies and procedures were adhered to during the incident. The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, which again is standard policy whenever an officer discharges a service weapon.
