Morning, Charlotte! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right. Here's everything you need to know in Charlotte today.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and less humid. High: 84 Low: 59.
Here are the top four stories in Charlotte today:
- North Carolina's primary elections take place today. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for voters who will pick party nominations for Senate, House and every seat in the General Assembly. About 577,000 people already voted early or by absentee ballot in the midterm primaries. The biggest race in the May 17 primary is for the Republican nomination to Sen. Richard Burr's seat in the Senate. (Spectrum News)
- Miacaiah Famoh, a 2-year-old child from Charlotte was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle near a church in Lincoln County. The incident happened on May 15 near Mundy Road. The toddler wasn't directly supervised in the church parking lot and walked into the roadway on NC 16 Business. The child was struck by a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E450. (Fox 46 Charlotte)
- Carolinas Metro Reds are making baseball affordable for kids in West Charlotte who otherwise may not be able to play. Morris Madden started the program to introduce baseball to an underprivileged community as well as offset the high cost of baseball equipment, uniforms travel, to a population that generally is and routinely underserved. They offer them tutoring and study sessions beyond playing and learning the lessons of baseball. (WCNC.com)
- Gas prices are not the only rising issue causing concern throughout the Carolinas. There's a shortage of diesel fuel that could impact the cost of everything from groceries to building supplies and any other products. Most drivers don't often pay attention to the cost of diesel, but as demand has increased, many truckers are worried. (WBTW)

Are you a Charlotte resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
