NORTH CAROLINA — Today is the deadline for North Carolina voters seeking to update their party affiliation ahead of the upcoming presidential primary election next month, as well as those in need of registering to vote.

The presidential primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 3, and now is a good time for voters to prepare by checking deadlines, voter registration status and other information.

While Feb. 7 is the last date for regular voter registration and updates to party affiliation, voters may register to vote and also cast their ballot at any one-stop early voting site in their county through the early voting period of Feb. 13 through Feb. 29, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

One-Stop Early Voting — Thursday, Feb. 13 through Saturday, Feb. 29
Early voting begins at a limited number of polling sites around the state throughout February.

“Unlike on Election Day, when registered voters can only vote at their specific precinct, one-stop voting allows registered voters to vote at any one-stop absentee voting site in the county,” NCSBE said.

Photo ID Requirements
On Dec. 31, 2019, a Federal District Court judge blocked a new state law that would have required photo identification for voting. That injunction will remain in place until further order of the court, the board of elections said. This means that no photo identification is required for voters during the March 3 primary election.
