Shooting At Charlotte-Area Hospital ‘Not Random Act’: Police

A gunman opened fire outside Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord Wednesday afternoon. One person has died, police said.

CONCORD, NC — Concord police have launched a death investigation after a gunman opened fire near the entrance of a hospital in what they say was not a random active shooting.

Officers rapidly swarmed to the Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast located at 920 Church Street in Concord amid reports of the shooting.

“At the moment there is a heavy police presence and a suspect is being detained,” CPD said in a tweet, urging motorists to avoid the area. “There is not a threat to the community at this time and the scene is secure.”

Police say the shooting was the result of an altercation between two people who knew each other.
