Sunday Morning Single-Car Crash Kills Two

Two people died Sunday morning in a single-car accident after the driver lost control while speeding, then hit a tree in North Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Two people are dead after the driver of a car they were in lost control while speeding, crashing into a tree.

Driver Larry Lee Lockhart Jr., 40, and Tabitha Denise Staton, 42, were pronounced dead on the scene after the 2012 Dodge Challengers they were traveling in drove off the right side of Hubbard Road in the 3400 block around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 6.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, speed is a contributing factor in this accident and detectives are investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor. CMPD asks anyone with information about this case contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
