UPDATED: Abuse of Two-Year-Old Boy Leads To Murder Charge

A Charlotte man has been charged with murder after his alleged abuse led to the death of a two-year-old boy.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A two-year-old boy has died from injuries police say was a result of abuse, and the suspect responsible has been charged with murder, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Friday morning.

CMPD officers responded to a call by medical staff at Carolinas Medical Center around 7 p.m. on June 7 after the boy was admitted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries including a traumatic brain injury and was unable to breathe on his own.

After officers from CMPD’s homicide unit interviewed the boy’s mother and her boyfriend, Christopher Sims, at they hospital, they charged Sims with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

“The initial investigation has determined that the victim had been left alone with Sims during the time that the injuries occurred,” a CMPD statement said.

Sims was later charged with murder June 8 following the boy’s death from the injuries, CMPD said.
