Thanksgiving 2017: Christmas Parades In Charlotte, Lake Norman

The season of holiday parades is upon the Charlotte and Lake Norman region. Here's what you need to know in order to catch all the fun.

There will be no time to slip off into a turkey-induced slumber this Thanksgiving in Charlotte. Here’s a list of the top parades in the region kicking off the holiday season.

Charlotte Thanksgiving Parade -- This holiday parade, which is the largest Thanksgiving Day parade in the Southeast U.S., marks its 70th anniversary this year.

  • WHEN IS IT? The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 on Tryon Street. It will proceed north from Stonewall Street to 9th Street.
  • HOW TO WATCH: There are a number of ways to catch the parade this year, starting with in person in uptown Charlotte. The festivities will also be broadcast throughout the region on WBTV, Channel 3 at 1 p.m. It will also be shown live on the parade’s mobile app and will be streamed on WBTV online. Mooresville Christmas Parade -- In the Lake Norman region, the annual Christmas parade in Mooresville will be held before the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • WHEN IS IT? The Mooresville Christmas Parade will be held downtown on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m.
  • HOW TO WATCH: The parade starts on Main Street at Statesville Avenue, and will travel south, ending at Mills Avenue. Organizers advise parade watchers set up chairs and blankets along the parade route before the event.

North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade -- Davidson and Cornelius’ annual holiday parade featuring high school bands, horses, dancers and tractors will be held after Thanksgiving.

  • WHEN IS IT? The North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
  • HOW TO WATCH: The parade begins on Main Street in Davidson at the intersection with Griffith Street and goes into Cornelius, finishing at the intersection of Highway 115 and Catawba Avenue.
