Tragic Murder-Suicide Leaves 2 Dead In North Charlotte

A man shot his wife and at least one other family member before killing himself early Friday morning, Charlotte police say.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A husband shot and killed his wife in a north Charlotte home overnight and shot at another family member before turning his gun on himself in what police are calling a murder-suicide.

The tragic incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. Dec. 22 in the 10800 block of Dapple Grey Lane, located near the University of North Carolina-Charlotte campus in north Charlotte. Police say they received a 911 call that Maurice Dermot Hunter, 51, was shooting at family members inside the home.

Responding officers found Hunter, along with his wife Suprena Mercelle Hunter, 50, dead on the scene. According to police, he attempted to shoot at least one other family member before he took his own life, however no others were injured.
