CHARLOTTE, NC β€” North Carolina has a diverse landscape of mountains, cities and 300 miles of beautiful Atlantic shoreline. The Tar Heel State is rife with rich history from being the place where man first took flight to once being the furniture capital of the world.

Today, the state is home to the second largest banking capital in the U.S., behind only New York City, top notch universities and 11 Fortune 500 companies.

But no state is perfect (no matter how much you love it), and North Carolina is no different. Insider came up with a list of the worst things about living in each state, with flaws ranging from minor ones like "too many hipsters," to major ones like "a high range of drug overdoses."

The number one worst thing about living in North Carolina is that food insecurity is high, according to Insider. According to a study from US News, about 17 percent of the state’s population suffers food insecurity. About 15 percent of West Virginia’s population, by comparison, has food insecurity.

β€œThe US Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a state in which β€˜consistent access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources at times during the year,’” Insider said, adding that US News ranked the state No. 5 in the country for food insecurity.
