Winter Storm Warning: Hourly Forecast For Charlotte
As snow falls across the Charlotte metro region, forecasters now turn their attention to a treacherous Thursday commute.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Queen City region woke to a building blanket of snow Wednesday morning as forecasters predict periods of heavy snow and falling temperatures throughout the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia will lead to treacherous road conditions for at least another day.
“A strong cold front will cross the region east of the mountains this morning,” the National Weather Service said in a Winter Storm Warning Wednesday morning. “A band of light to moderate snow will accompany the front as it passes. In addition to the snow accumulation, quickly falling temperatures will allow the snow to stick, and/or any water on untreated roads to quickly freeze, resulting in numerous travel problems.”

The government forecasters say 3 to 6 inches could fall in central North Carolina, with locally higher amounts possible east of the Interstate 77 corridor.
The severe winter weather could make for a treacherous commute Thursday due to the possibility of black ice, according to NWS forecasters. “With temperatures below freezing early Thursday morning, any residual water on roadways and elevated surfaces will likely refreeze, affecting travel conditions for Thursday’s morning commute,” it said Jan. 17.
