Winter Weather Advisory Issued For North Carolina
Cold rain is expected to move into our area Thursday night. Here's what forecasters say it could mean for the Friday morning commute.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Cold rain is expected to move into our region begining late tonight, which could lead to a slippery commute Friday morning from the western end of the state to the northern piedmont, according to a National Weather Service winter weather advisory issued Dec. 12.
Rain will develop southwest of the Charlotte metro region Thursday evening, increasing “in coverage and intensity through daybreak,” NWS said in its advisory. Rain will remain in the forecast for our area through Saturday.
“It will be cold enough for some of this precipitation to fall as freezing rain and perhaps a little sleet,” NWS said. “A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for tonight for portions of western North Carolina, including much of the foothills, northern Piedmont, and the mountains east and south of the Balsams. However, a brief period of wintry mix will also be possible in areas surrounding the advisory, where light icing could develop on trees and other elevated surfaces.”
