Witness Tip Leads To Arrest Of Fatal Hit-And-Run Suspect
A quick-thinking witness led police to a suspect now charged for the hit-and-run of a man left dead along a Charlotte road.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A shoe in the road and a quick-thinking witness led police to the body of a man hit by a car Wednesday night along a Charlotte road, and helped identify the suspect now charged for the fatal hit-and-run.
Michael James Denny, 49, was killed when he was hit by a 2006 Kia Sorento driven Timothy Craig Medley, 44, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 on Shopton Road in south Charlotte near McDowell Nature Preserve, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
Police might not have caught Medley after the hit-and-run had it not been for a witness driving to a store, according to CMPD. The witness first noticed the victim walking along the road while en route to the store, and then noticed a shoe in the road when he was returning home. The witness then saw Medley’s Kia Sorento on Pilcher Drive, parked along the street and inoperable due to collision damage.

“The witness realized what had occurred and immediately returned to the scene where he located the victim and called 911,” CMPD said. “Without his willingness to become involved it is doubtful that the victim would have been located tonight and the suspect may have escaped justice.”
Police have charged Medley, who they say was driving while impaired, with felony death by vehicle and felony hit and run.
