Woman Shot By Boyfriend Who Later Turned Gun On Himself

The wounded woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment after she was shot by her boyfriend Monday night. He later shot himself.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A woman was shot and left wounded in a northwest Charlotte home late Monday evening in an attack by her boyfriend, who was later found in a parking lot about 10 miles away with serious injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

According to a police account, the domestic violence incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. in the 2600 block of Filson Court in Charlotte.

When responding officers arrived at the home, they found the adult female victim with a gunshot wound. The victim, who has not been identified by authorities, was transported to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.

Police obtained two arrest warrants for the suspect — Reginald Simpson, 59 — who had fled the scene. The warrants were on the charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

Simpson was located a short time later around 1:30 a.m., in Stanley, North Carolina when police responded to a call for service in the Bi-Lo parking lot at 421 Highway NC-27.

“When they arrived they located Reginald Simpson in the parking lot with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement.

Simpson was transported by paramedics to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. He will be arrested and taken into custody upon his release, police said.

CMPD said the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing and asks anyone who has information about this incident to call 911. The public can also leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
