Here are the top four stories today in Charlotte:

  1. "While many workers had no choice but to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the tide has turned with many employers demanding in-person hours to raise productivity. This has led to pushback from many remote workers who have no desire to go back into the office after growing accustomed to the flexibility of working from home. Some companies are doing away with remote work altogether. The problem is as the demand to work remotely has remained steady, the number of virtual job listings has quickly dwindled. It's a shift that's made gigs with virtual flexibility highly sought after and competitive," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
  2. "A Charlotte woman is spreading love, surprising widows with flowers on Valentine’s Day. She started with one woman in 2020. This year, volunteers will deliver to 800. Ashley Manning just wants to spread love. "That's what it’s all about," Manning said. So she’s building the perfect bouquet, which will be replicated hundreds of times this Valentine's Day as an army of volunteers once again takes over Manning’s south Charlotte driveway," WCNC reports. (WCNC.com)
  3. "Nine new proposals have been selected by UNC Charlotte’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion to receive spring 2023 Inclusive Excellence Grants for their potential to advance diversity, promote equity and foster inclusion throughout Charlotte and the surrounding community. Proposals submitted by faculty and staff are designed to address ideas related to diversity education and training; faculty, staff and student recruitment or retention; institutional excellence in policy and practice; or cultural programming," Inside UNC Charlotte reports. (Inside UNC Charlotte)
  4. "Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools may be the second largest district in the state, but when it comes to English learning students, CMS takes the cake. For immigrant families, it can be hard to navigate the public school system. And that’s where CMS International Center steps in. The center has worked with nearly 50,000 people across the district. Of that, 181 counties and 209 languages other than English are represented. WBTV’s Mary Calkins wanted to see how the process works from arriving in Charlotte as an immigrant to becoming a CMS student for myself, so she tagged along with a Guatemalan family as they went through the International Center," WBTV reports.
