3. High School Round Up: September 30, 2026 (wlos.com) — Cherokee High athletes were busy on September 30, with boys soccer falling 1–0 to Highlands while the volleyball team swept Brevard 3–0. Cherokee's cross-country runners also turned in strong performances at the Black Knight Invite, including top-10 finishes for girls and a sixth-place team finish for the boys, highlighting local student-athlete achievements.
4. Every Child Matters: EBCI commemorates National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (theonefeather.com) — Cherokee residents gathered in orange shirts in town to mark Orange Shirt Day, honoring children affected by the Cherokee Boarding School and other Indian boarding schools. Speakers shared new research using ground-penetrating radar at the former school site and emphasized both the trauma and resilience in Cherokee history, while tribal leaders formally proclaimed Sept. 30 as Orange Shirt Day on EBCI lands.
5. Aoanan Elected Kabalens International president ad group charts road to MHCS centennial — USA (asianjournal.com) — A recent Kabalens International reunion at Harrah's Cherokee brought former Mary Help of Christians Seminary students and families together as they elected engineer Virgilio "Virgil" Aoanan to lead the group through 2029. While the organization's mission centers on a Philippine seminary's upcoming centennial, the gathering in Cherokee highlighted how alumni worldwide are planning history projects, memorials, and renewed ties to the school.
