Walmart Partners With Solo Faith Church to Deliver Food to NC Communities

CONCORD, N.C. — Solo Faith Church Inc. has been awarded a Walmart Spark Good Local Grant. The money goes toward the free grocery delivery program this Concord church runs for households across Cabarrus County and the wider Charlotte region.

Spark Good Local Grants are not awarded by a national committee. Individual Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs and distribution centers award them to organizations working in the community that facility serves. Eligible applicants are 501c3 public charities, accredited K-12 schools, government entities and faith-based organizations. Awards range from $250 to $5,000, and hunger relief is one of the stated funding areas, alongside disaster response, workforce development, environmental conservation and community programming.

What makes the program unusual is who decides. Facility managers read the applications themselves and weigh whether the mission fits a real need in that community, whether the organization can be trusted, and whether it can show its work produces results. A store leader who lives in this region looked at what this church does with groceries and doorsteps, and said yes.

An honest note on where things stand: Solo Faith Church has applications in with a number of Walmart and Sam's Club facilities across the region. We have been awarded. We have not been awarded by all of them, and several are still under review. Because each facility decides on its own, this is a rolling story rather than a single announcement.

The pantry sits in Cabarrus County, but the online ordering system does not stop at the county line. Orders come in from across the Charlotte metropolitan area, including Mecklenburg, Gaston, Stanly, Iredell and Davidson counties. Some of those orders have not been able to be served. That is the plain truth, and it is why Solo Faith applied to facilities throughout the region rather than only in Concord.

Here is the mechanism, because it matters more than the announcement. A neighbor places an order through the free online pantry at solofaith.org/foodbank. An AI-automated system handles intake and builds the delivery schedule. A DoorDash driver picks the order up and carries it to the door. No cost to the household, no paperwork, no judgment. At Solo Faith Church, $10 delivers food to one household facing a transportation barrier, so grant dollars convert almost directly into boxes on porches.

That delivery model is why a small church can serve a large map. It is also why Solo Faith is building toward an AI-automated ordering and logistics platform other pantries in the region can plug into, using their food and their pickup locations while the system schedules the drivers. Several organizations have already asked to become pickup points.

To the Walmart team who read the application and chose to back it: thank you. You did not fund a concept. You funded groceries arriving at the door of a senior who cannot drive, a family without a working car, a neighbor who has been quietly going without.
