• Swim Advisory Issued for Lake Norman (corneliustoday.com subscription) — A no-swim advisory is in effect for a Lake Norman cove near Harborside Drive, and Cornelius residents are urged to keep people and pets out until bacteria tests show the water is safe. The sewer overflow comes just two weeks after the Cornelius Town Board approved steep fines—up to $25,000—for illicit discharges into local waterways, significantly raising potential penalties for polluters.
   

• Governor Announces Nearly $10 Million in Parks and Recreation Grants Awards (nc.gov) — Cornelius is set to receive a $500,000 state grant to buy land for a new Cornelius Park, with the town required to match the funds. The award is part of nearly $10 million in Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grants Governor Josh Stein announced for 25 projects statewide, aimed at expanding and improving local parks and recreation facilities.
   

• I-77 South project has cost nearly $70 million as future remains uncertain (qcnews.com) — Cornelius is among the municipalities reaffirming support for the I-77 South Express Lanes as nearly $70 million has already been spent and a state rule could force opponents to repay those funds. Regional leaders must soon decide whether to back the toll project, which could unlock up to $300 million in community investments or risk losing money and congestion relief options.
