1. Wake Forest police obtain arrest warrant after chase into Durham, crash by officer that injured two (myfox8.com) — A police chase from Wake Forest into Durham ended when a pursuing officer crashed into another car near Holloway and Raynor streets, injuring two people who were taken to the hospital. Wake Forest police obtained an arrest warrant for 47-year-old John Flowers Jr. of Durham, who is also a person of interest in organized retail thefts, and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
2. Pipe break triggers Hillsborough boil water advisory; town buying water from Durham to refill tank (cbs17.com) — A major water main break in Hillsborough forced the town to issue a boil water advisory for several neighborhoods and buy water from the City of Durham to refill a key storage tank. Residents in affected areas must boil water for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth until further notice, while restaurants and childcare centers file safety plans with county health officials.
3. Suspect charged with assault, gun on educational property in connection to second UNC lockdown (dailytarheel.com) — UNC-Chapel Hill went into a second campus lockdown before police arrested 27-year-old Mickel Deonte Harris of Durham on Formosa Lane in connection with an earlier gun-related incident. Chapel Hill police say his warrants stem from an alleged road-rage assault near Old Durham Road on Sept. 5, and Harris now faces multiple gun and threat-related charges while UNC Police continue investigating.
4. 'We gave them hell': The people who once fought Google buses remember battles won and lost (sfstandard.com) — A former San Francisco housing activist now lives in Durham and is helping organize the Stop Data Centers in Durham Coalition, warning that tech-driven displacement is spreading here. Their story is part of a broader look back at protests against Google commuter buses and tech-fueled gentrification in San Francisco, and how similar pressures are emerging in cities like Durham and Raleigh.
