Nick's House Village expands to Durham (triangletribune.com) β Families coming to Durham for cancer treatment will soon have access to free lodging at Nick's House Village on West Wilson Street, just over a mile from Duke Cancer Center. HEADstrong Foundation's three-home complex will host up to six families at a time, easing housing costs while inviting local residents to help furnish the spaces through an online wish list.

Integral Announces Construction Start for 900-Unit Durham Apartment Development (connectcre.com) β A massive 907-unit Tribute Rising apartment and retail project is moving forward in Durham, redeveloping the Forest Hills Heights public housing site on West Lakewood Avenue. With at least 100 affordable units, a grocery store, childcare center, and $343 million in investment, the phased build starting in 2027 could significantly reshape local housing and services.

3. Classes at Durham's Hillside High cancelled after HVAC breaks during heat wave (newsobserver.com) β Classes at Hillside High School in Durham were cut short Wednesday after the school's HVAC system failed during a 95-degree heat wave, sending indoor temperatures above 80 degrees. District officials say repairs are underway and families will be updated about Thursday's schedule, while also warning that Durham Public Schools faces a massive backlog of roof and HVAC replacements across its 57 campuses.

4. Carolina Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin partners with Prime BBQ to open new RTP restaurant (cbs17.com) β A new Prime STQ restaurant is coming to Hub RTP in Durham, bringing a barbecue-meets-steakhouse concept from Carolina Hurricanes star Jaccob Slavin and Prime Barbecue owner Christopher Prieto. Planned to open in spring 2027, the 8,000-square-foot spot at Horseshoe at Hub RTP will feature indoor and outdoor seating for 250 and a private dining room overlooking the pit room.
