Riverside High School in Durham on lockdown for 3rd day this week (cbs17.com) — Riverside High School in Durham went into lockdown again Friday afternoon, the third time this week, after a tip to the See Something, Say Something app about a possible on-campus threat. Earlier lockdowns on Tuesday and Thursday involved a report of a possible gun, but officials say no actual threats were ultimately found.
3. Thanksgiving: Culinary & Cultural History program at Bennett Place State Historic Site Nov. 21 (triangleonthecheap.com) — Bennett Place in Durham is hosting a Thanksgiving: Culinary & Cultural History program on Saturday, November 21, featuring talks on the holiday's Civil War-era roots, Indigenous foodways, and women's history. You can enjoy hearth-cooking demos, crafts, games, vendors, and a recipe exchange, with a suggested $10 donation but free admission allowed.
4. From the anchor desk to the NBA Court: ABC11's Amber Rupinta joins Washington Wizdom Dance Team (abc11.com) — Durham viewers will soon see a familiar face dancing on an NBA court, as ABC11 anchor Amber Rupinta has earned a spot on the Washington Wizards' Wizdom Dance Team for performers 50 and older. After secretly training and auditioning in Washington, she made the cut and hopes her late-in-life achievement inspires others in Durham to revisit long-shelved passions.
5. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Chef Oscar Diaz makes a mark on Triangle dining (abc11.com) — Durham diners can sample Chef Oscar Diaz's take on Hispanic flavors at his local spots Aaktun, TaTaco, and Little Bull, all helping shape the Triangle's food scene. Diaz, a Top Chef alum with roots in Mexico and big-city kitchens, now runs several restaurants across the region, including a new concept at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
