1. 2 injured as gunfire erupts on Durham city bus (newsbreak.com) — Two men were shot late Friday night on a GoDurham bus near North Roxboro and Edwards streets, and both are now being treated for their injuries. Police say the gunfire followed an altercation, but they have not identified a suspect or clarified whether the shooter was on or off the bus. Investigators are asking anyone who was nearby to share information.
2. South Durham Jobs: Campus and Public Service Openings (soduwelikelocal.news) — Job seekers in South Durham have 44 new listings to explore this week, many with Durham city and county government, Durham Public Schools, and nearby universities. Roles range from social services and tech support to maintenance and clinical work, including positions at The Streets at Southpoint and along Crooked Creek Parkway and Farrington Road, all within easy reach for local residents.
3. Third Friday at Zeitgeist Gallery and Bar in Durham on Oct. 16: Art and live jazz (triangleonthecheap.com) — Durham art lovers can head to Zeitgeist Gallery & Bar on North Mangum Street for a free Third Friday evening of local art and live jazz on October 16. The Fate and Folklore exhibition showcases dozens of North Carolina artists, with artist mixers, talks, and a Symbiosis Duo jazz performance creating a full night out for adults 21 and over.
4. NC Central homecoming parade draws thousands despite showers (abc11.com) — Despite gray skies and showers in Durham, thousands of North Carolina Central University students, alumni, and families turned out for Saturday's homecoming parade. Parents traveled in to cheer on the Sound Machine marching band and other participants, while forecasters advised residents to keep umbrellas and rain boots handy for more unsettled weather on Sunday.
